Size comparison · UK 18 to 32
UK 18 to 32 across five shops: the real measurements
Short answer: above UK 18 the labels stop meaning the same thing. At UK 20 the published bust runs from 113 cm at Yours to 117 cm at Boohoo and Dorothy Perkins — a 4 cm gap. At UK 28 it runs from 135.5 cm at Roman Curve to 141 cm at Boohoo. A woman measuring 141 cm is a UK 28 at Boohoo, a UK 30 at Yours and Simply Be, and a UK 32 at Roman Curve. Three different sizes, one body, one day.
The quick answer
- Nothing is standardised. All five retailers sell a "UK 20". None of them agree what it measures.
- Bust spread at UK 20 is 4 cm (113 cm Yours → 117 cm Boohoo/DP). At UK 28 it is 5.5 cm (135.5 cm Roman Curve → 141 cm Boohoo).
- Waist spread is widest at UK 18: 9 cm (92 cm Yours → 101 cm Roman Curve). It narrows to 3 cm by UK 24.
- Roman Curve runs smallest on the bust at every size from 24 up, and largest on the waist throughout.
- Dorothy Perkins stops at UK 24. Above that only Yours, Roman Curve, Simply Be and Boohoo continue.
Bust: the numbers at every size
Bust is where the spread is most consistent — roughly 4 to 5.5 cm at every size from 18 to 32. Read a row and you are looking at five garments with the same label that fit five different bodies.
| UK | Yours | Roman Curve | Simply Be | Boohoo | Dorothy Perkins | Spread |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 18 | 107 | 111.5 | 110 | 111 | 111 | 4.5 cm |
| 20 | 113 | 115.5 | 116 | 117 | 117 | 4 cm |
| 22 | 119 | 119.5 | 122 | 123 | 123 | 4 cm |
| 24 | 125 | 123.5 | 128 | 129 | 129 | 5.5 cm |
| 26 | 131 | 129.5 | 134 | 135 | — | 5.5 cm |
| 28 | 137 | 135.5 | 140 | 141 | — | 5.5 cm |
| 30 | 143 | 141.5 | 146 | 147 | — | 5.5 cm |
| 32 | 149 | 147.5 | 152 | 153 | — | 5.5 cm |
Waist: where the gap is largest at the bottom, smallest at the top
Waist behaves the opposite way to bust. The spread is widest at UK 18 — 9 cm between Yours at 92 cm and Roman Curve at 101 cm — and narrows to just 3 cm by UK 24 and above. The reason is Roman Curve: it grades a much larger waist throughout, and the other four gradually catch up.
| UK | Yours | Roman Curve | Simply Be | Boohoo | Dorothy Perkins | Spread |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 18 | 92 | 101 | 95 | 93 | 93 | 9 cm |
| 20 | 98 | 105 | 101 | 99 | 99 | 7 cm |
| 22 | 104 | 109 | 107 | 105 | 105 | 5 cm |
| 24 | 110 | 113 | 113 | 111 | 111 | 3 cm |
| 26 | 116 | 119 | 119 | 117 | — | 3 cm |
| 28 | 122 | 125 | 125 | 123 | — | 3 cm |
| 30 | 128 | 131 | 131 | 129 | — | 3 cm |
| 32 | 134 | 137 | 137 | 135 | — | 3 cm |
Hips: the chart nobody talks about
Hip measurements diverge least on the crown but most at the seam: Boohoo and Dorothy Perkins publish wider hips than everyone at every size. At UK 24 that is 137 cm against 130 cm at Roman Curve — 7 cm, or roughly two skirt sizes.
| UK | Yours | Roman Curve | Simply Be | Boohoo | Dorothy Perkins | Spread |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 18 | 116 | 118 | 116 | 119 | 119 | 3 cm |
| 20 | 122 | 122 | 122 | 125 | 125 | 3 cm |
| 22 | 128 | 126 | 128 | 131 | 131 | 5 cm |
| 24 | 134 | 130 | 134 | 137 | 137 | 7 cm |
| 26 | 140 | 136 | 140 | 143 | — | 7 cm |
| 28 | 146 | 142 | 146 | 149 | — | 7 cm |
| 30 | 152 | 148 | 152 | 155 | — | 7 cm |
| 32 | 158 | 154 | 158 | 161 | — | 7 cm |

The worked case: one body, three labels
Take a woman with a 141 cm bust, 123 cm waist and 149 cm hips.
| Retailer | Size that fits | Their bust / waist / hips (cm) |
|---|---|---|
| Boohoo | UK 28 | 141 / 123 / 149 |
| Simply Be | UK 28 | 140 / 125 / 146 |
| Yours Clothing | UK 28 (tight) | 137 / 122 / 146 |
| Roman Curve | UK 30 | 141.5 / 131 / 148 |
Straightforward enough at that body. Now take a woman with a 141 cm bust and a 123 cm waist — the same bust but a narrower middle. At Boohoo she is a clean UK 28. At Roman Curve, the nearest bust match is UK 30, whose waist is 131 cm — 8 cm too loose. Roman's UK 28 has the right waist at 125 cm but a bust of 135.5 cm — 5.5 cm too small. She has no Roman Curve size that fits both. Every other shop gives her one.
Who goes furthest
If you have been sized out of a main-range chart, the practical question is who still sells your size.
| Retailer | Range | Highest UK size |
|---|---|---|
| Yours Clothing | Curve | 32 |
| Roman Curve | Curve | 32 |
| Simply Be | Standard | 32 |
| Boohoo | Main | 32 |
| Dorothy Perkins | Main | 24 |
Four of the five go to 32. Dorothy Perkins stops at 24 and publishes no larger chart at all — so a UK 26 there is not a fit problem, it is an unavailable product.
How to use these numbers
- Measure once, in cm. Bust at the fullest point, waist at the narrowest, hips about 20 cm below the waist, tape level and not pulled tight.
- Compare against the specific shop's chart, not your usual label. The tables above are the source; your habit is not.
- Check which range the garment belongs to. Roman publishes a Main range (10–22) and a Curve range (16–32) with very different measurements. Buying Roman Curve in your Main-range size will run 10 cm loose on the waist.
- Expect to be between sizes at the top of the range. A 5.5 cm bust spread at a size where grading steps are 6 cm means most people sit near a boundary.
